Your Podcast Potion For The Week of Nov 25
A child's city, women's bodies at extremes, one of my favorite poets, lucid dreaming, religion as make believe, Ira Glass on leaving a legacy, and an obituary for Osama Bin Laden.
Hello. Hello.
I always look forward to curating this list of podcast episodes for you every Sunday. These are a treasure trove of interesting conversations and topics! I find my own life is enriched and transformed when I take the time to intentionally listen to other people’s perspectives and stories. Podcasts are such a simple way to expand and evolve and grow. They feel like a little bit of magic to me!
I purposefully limit these podcast potions to one from every day of the week so you are not overwhelmed. Pick the first one that piques your curiosity!
Happy Listening!
Monday
Struggle Care with KC Davis | What if Children Designed Cities? with Mara Mintzer | Nov 25 2024 | 48 min
When we listen to children (a quarter of the population!) we start to listen to other marginalized voices. Kids have the best ideas- they want more nature, beauty, flowers, beauty, and water! More messy play, fun bus stops and bus rides, swings and creative junk yards at middle school, and spaces designed for thrill-seeking in a prosocial way. A MUST LISTEN.
Tuesday
Fresh Air | A Marine’s Portrait of Her Body At Extremes | Nov 25 2024 | 51 min
Whew, this was a difficult listen for me, lots of talk about eating disorders and the ways Bailey Williams was sexualized and rewarded for pushing her body to the extremes…her memoir Hollow is on my list!
Wednesday
Tetragrammaton with Rick Rubin | Brianna Wiest | Nov 27 2024 | 1 hr 43 min
Brianna Wiest is on my list of all-time favorite poets. Her work centers on emotional intelligence, mental health, and discovering inner potential. Whenever I pick up one of her books I always have a revelation! In this behind-the-scenes interview, she talks about her journaling practice, therapy, her next book, her method for writing, etc.
Thursday
Science VS. | Lucid Dreaming: The Bonkers World Inside Our Minds | Nov 14 2024 | 46 min
I can’t stop thinking about this episode and have already tried a few times this week to have some lucid dreams!
Friday
Straight White American Jesus | It’s in the Code: “Religion as Make Believe” | Nov 27 2024 | 1 hr
Required listening for every human. I particularly appreciate his emphasis on belief vs. idea and how simply shifting our language can help us become more inclusive.
Saturday
Wild Card with Rachel Martin | Ira Glass plays a nicer version of himself on the radio | Nov 28 2024 | 37 min
Ira Glass makes the radio show, “This American Life” and I am enamored with the way he tells stories. In this interview with Rachel Martin, he answers a series of interesting, random questions- every one of his responses brought a smile to my face. In particular the one about leaving a legacy!
Sunday
The Next Big Idea | CATCHING SOULS: An Obituary Writer’s Lessons for Living | Nov 21 2024 | 52 min
Ann Wroe writes weekly obituaries for The Economist. She even wrote one for Osama Bin Laden! Listen in for her wisdom on being human and how none of us are either fully good or fully bad.
I hope this podcast potion opens you up to some new ideas, stirs your heart, or inspires your creativity!
Let me know which one you are going to listen to first!
