Podcast of The Day: We Can Do Hard Things | How To Talk To Kids About Hard Things: Sonya Renee Taylor | Feb 17 2025 | 1 hr 3 min
Why It Mattered To Me:
Talking to my kids about the biggies like god and beliefs and sex and climate change and racial injustice always feels a bit daunting…am I going to say the right thing?! So often, I probably don’t say the “right” thing, but Sonya reminds us that we miss the point when we’re worried about being perfectly eloquent with our explanations.
This episode is so full of practical tips for answering our kids’ questions but most importantly, and what I’ll remember, is the fact that we MUST constantly be thinking about our stance on these issues and never stop learning and asking questions ourselves! These Words Made Me Pause:
“We give them the opportunity to start reframing the story for themselves so that seed doesn’t keep growing and building on itself and building on itself until it becomes their identity as an adult.
So that to me is one of the key moments that we have to intercept what becomes a lifelong pattern by acknowledging, witnessing, and then reframing the experience so that their most empowered self can actually be activated.”

I still find it so fun to pass along my favorite listens. I hope they are connecting you to some new voices and podcasts and books!
Question for you: If you have kids or are around them…what’s the hardest question they’ve asked you recently?
